Grants for Equipment to Individuals

In the United Kingdom, the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign provides support to people with neuromuscular conditions and their familes, through its Family Care Officers, its information service and a wide range of information materials and factsheets. Their National Occupational Therapy Adviser can advise on a range of issues relating to equipment and adaptations.

Since 1986 the Joseph Patrick Trust, the welfare fund of the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign, has given grants worth more than £3 million to over 5,000 people with muscular dystrophy and related disorders. is a registered charity providing practical help for adults and children with muscular dystrophy or one of the neuromuscular conditions related to it and can provide grants for individuals towards the cost of equipment and wheelchairs.

In the United States, the Muscular Dystrophy Association can help with the purchase of leg braces, manual and electric wheelchairs and augmentative communication devices. They also have a loan closet from which people can check out other types of equipment.
